The Importance of Good Handwriting

In the age of email, cell phones and computers, handwritten notes is obsolete, or is it? Though digital communication is faster, it is not necessary better. Sometimes it is imperative that you use the analog way of using a pencil. At other instances, handwritten stuff might bring ease of communication. For example, if you are going out and want your cellular phone-free mom to know, the best way would be to leave a note on the kitchen table.

Now all this handwritten stuff would work if only the recipient could comprehend the note. If the note was terribly written, then the communication would break down, or worse yet, the wrong communication would occur. Perfect example is at this post by a blogger. The person's mom interpreted the phrase "making chicken" into "making babies." How embarrassing would that be?

Sometimes bad handwriting can just ruin your life (or your life for a few days until you can redeem yourself, mango439 and Clara would know). Now that high schoolers need to take higher, more advance classes, most are jumping to AP, some of the exams requires written portions and/or essays. Worse yet, the SAT now have a 25-min essay section. Considering that the SAT is a major factor in college admission, you college years determine your job/occupation, and your job/occupation determines your life, this little essay is quite important.

Having nice hand writing is also sometimes nice for other reasons. Would you like to receive a generic thank-you card or a card with work put into the card? The fact is that nice handwriting in general gives a sense of care and love (if written nicely). Also the convenience of handwritten notes makes it a great attribute to have lovely handwriting.

So where do we start? There's a plethora of websites on the results page if you google "handwriting tips." I looked through some of times and the reiterate a few common principles like good sharpened pencils/pens, the right grip, the right muscle control etc. And all of time repeat the time proven ideal of practice.
