Your Music, Everywhere.

Sorry for the oversized picture, I took screenshots on the Mac and used Photoshop to convert them, I forgot to resize.

If you have a computer full of music and you want to listen to it, but either 1. You didn't bring your iPod/MP3 player or 2. You don't have a iPod/MP3 player, now there's a plethora of free services for you. Most of them are free and online, and some makes your computer a server so you can access your computer anytime (if it's on) for your music (or files).

1. Mediamaster.com is a free online service where you upload your music and access your account to listen to it. The process is relatively painless and, from my experience, quite smooth. When you first log on, you upload your music using their online uploader.

You can upload song by song or just import your whole iTunes library (I did this on a mac so I don't know about WMP). The uploader than does it's thing and you can then listen to all your music. The thing I like about Mediamaster is the fact that you can make it full screen, so it's slightly prettier...

It's quality is okay for online service and there's this community thing I don't use, as I have no friends on there...:(

2. Anywhere.fm is much like Mediamaster, with difference quite minute. The one quirk is that you must have a desktop uploader meaning you have to download an app to upload. The upload is also quite smooth and nice.

The player is also quite polished and looks nice and there's this thing on the top said share at anywhere.fm/runiteking1 (never tried it but someone please try!).

There's also a community thing, and as usual, I don't know anybody there...

3. Orb transforms your computer into a MP3 server and allows you to stream your music from your home computer. This post from Lifehacker could tell you a lot more than I can. The downside to this way of streaming is that your compy must be on to access your files, thus increasing electric bill.

Or, if you feel geeky enough, you can install Apache, poke a hole in your firewall and make your computer a server for anything...

Extra: Pandora.com is the online radio station that I listen to when I do homework. You insert your favorite artist/songs and Pandora searches the Music Genome Project for songs with similar qualities, thus a quite nice radio station. As the songs play on each station, you can "I like it", or "I don't like it" to make Pandora play more/less songs similar to the song you just rated.
