The Purpose of a Wiki

A is "wiki" is defined on Wikipedia as

A collection of web pages designed to enable anyone who accesses it to contribute or modify content, using a simplified markup language[1][2]. Wikis are often used to create collaborative websites and to power community websites.
The keyword here is collaborative. The whole point of a wiki is that one person cannot do it, but we can do it as a group.

So for example, I wonder on to Wikipedia and browse around. Suddenly I saw a horrible, horrible mistake. It stated that the Boehm system fingering on the clarinet contains only 14 keys when it actually contains 17 keys.

Well so what do I do?

First of all, one should look under the discussion tab on the top left corner to see if there is some debate on the topic. If there is, you should add your own input into the discussion and keep up with it.

If there is no discussion, just click the edit tab, locate a good passage to put in the additional information, and add it in. As a rule of thumb, such verifiable fact should be cited (as you can see from the example above).

When you are finished adding the information, don't forget to write in what information you submitted under "revision history" or some variant of the phrase. The purpose of that is so other people can confirm that you are right.

It's very easy and the end result is better information for all.
