So what is the "Wii effect?" Well, it is when you meet a totally new, super innovative item that changes your view on a particular topic. In this instance, it is the Nintendo Wii. Let me explain...
So yesterday, my mom took my little brother to his friend's house to play. Little does my mom know that the particular friend they are visiting (lets name him Pierre) bought a Wii a few days before.
When my mom got home, she was raving about the Wii.
"Oh its sooo fun!"A mostly conservative Asian women has just been convinced to purchase a game console. The next thing I know, I was searching through all the major retailers with no avail trying to find a Wii.
"It actually gives me exercise!"
"It's so innovative!"
Now, this won't be anything to report if my mom was only raving about the Wii, but Pierre was also seriously considering buying a big screen TV. A $250 game console caused a family to think about putting extra money into the economy.
Of course, a game console without games and accessories is nothing, thus the need for such titles as Brawl and Wii Play. I remember hearing a statistic somewhere that Wii Play is the best selling title for the Wii just because of the extra controller. Imagine the money going into the economy if the government just gave everyone a Wii.... or an iPhone...
To conclude, the Wii is one of the many "killer apps" out there that caused people's perception of a industry to change completely.
A job well done Nintendo!
