Humans have an amazing memory. I know of adults who can tell parts of their very early childhood, around four to five years old, quite vividly. Me, myself, can describe events from when I was around five to six.
Still, there’s something weird about us humans. We remember mistakes a lot better than we do achievements. For example, if you give me a problem I missed in the past, whether in a school test or whatever, I’ll probably know it because it instantly triggers a portion of my brain. Also take a look at this page from Reuters.
Then there are the bigger problems. Shia, Shiites, and Sunnis. Muslims and Christians. Yankees and Red Sox. All these are a descendent of a small trouble generations ago.
For the 3Ss, it was a dispute over who will lead the umma after Muhammad’s death. Now look at the thousands of people dead because they can’t seem to resolve their own dispute.
Muslims and Christians just don’t seem to get along probably because of the constantly bickering “I’m right!”, “No, I’m right!” Now take a look at the mess they made in Sudan.
Baseball? Oh, whoops, I hate baseball…
My point being said, people always remember the bad stuff about you. My dad being the stereotypical Asian dad, constantly losses his temper and brings back deeds I did long, long ago. Sometimes, the task at hand and the stories he tells of my past failures are no where related.
I’m frustrated at what we are, yet what we can’t do. We are the only “thinking” animals on the planet, yet we can’t remember why we are fighting. A resemblance can be made to Iraq, America is the only superpower in the world right now, but they’re not sure why they’re still in Iraq.
Not saying that I’m not guilty of this too. Bring up a name, and if I’m not close friends with him or her, I’ll instantly think of the troubles they created. The culture of rumors…
