Love v.s. Respect

So what do you want more: love or respect? First let me define what I think each is.

Love is the invisible bond between living creature. It could be described as the Force from Star Wars. It is something we humans treasure and need to survive. For anyone who seen Gladiator, Comodus (the Caesar) was constantly asking for love.

Respect is the knowledge that someone (or something) has the power to achieve something much more than you. It is not necessary to be fear. Respect is received from deeds done, not talk. Still, respect can be earned by such traits as truthfulness, promptness and leadership skills.

For me, everything is about respect. I want to be respected, and not get run over by people. In my opinion, love comes with respect, and not necessarily vice verse. Respect is what Winston Smith gave to Big Brother, and Winston did love Big Brother at the end.

In the long run, respect prevails. Love might fall into ruins as betrayal takes over but the respect for someone rarely will fall. Yet respect does have its toll. Having too much respect will result in no love, no friends, no feelings; the complete opposite of what humans are meant to do.

Still, maybe respect is the result of my gender. Men is seen as "dead" emotionally compared to women. As a result of this, a commenter on another blog said this:

"Though i wonder if we ask men a similar question and just substitute anything for respect like, "would you rather have a turkey sandwich or be loved?" they might take that sandwich and run."

I'm not the one who will take the sandwich, but if its respect or love, I'm all for respect.
