What is Melody?

There has been much debate about what is music. Purists say music is just classical, while liberals say music is an expression of any sort in the from of sound. I won't get into the debate but I do like to say a few words on "melodiousness (in classical music)."

Take a listen to this video of the solo (Concerto #1 Mvmt. 1 by Weber) I'm playing (reason I'm not uploading myself is because my microphone sucks):

So now take a listen to the other piece (Three Pieces by Stravinsky) I'm playing for an audition (Note: this piece is unaccompanied and the reason I'm not playing it is that I'm still struggling with it):

Did you hear the difference in musicality? The latter one sounds jumbled up and quite random (especially the 1st and 3rd movement... actually the 3rd movement is quite jazzy) while the first song is very open and quite full of nice melodic lines.

Part of this reason is the different time periods. Weber wrote his pieces in the Romantic age while Stravinsky wrote his near 1910. The other is undoubtedly one's musical talents and taste. Personally I think the Weber (1st one) is much more "melodic" than to Stravinsky's at first glance but when I started to look deeper and deeper, I find that the Three Pieces is quite musical.
