I believe in learning from a clock.
The reasons for this belief is the due to the fundamental characteristics of a clock. A clock always tocks with its ticks. A clock always adjusts when asked to. A clock always fight to the very end.
Listening to the tick-tock tick-tock of a clock is quite comforting for me. It symbolizes that time is still going for me and the world is still round. But that is not why I envy a clock. No, I envy a clock for the reason that it is relentless in its pursuit of timekeeping. Its determination is ruthless. If only I had that determination, I would be unstoppable.
A clock might be determined, but it is also flexible. It won't argue with you over your reasoning to change the time. A clock actually listens, probably much better than most humans. This might be seen as a weakness, but I see its strength. The trust of a timekeeping machine on its master is unmoving, something I hope to achieve.
I have a relatively good watch (Citizen) and I dropped it a few times in the past. This watch has been through a lot of trouble keeping time for me. Tennis, sweat, water, engineering tech, gym, all take a toll on the little clock, but it still goes. My watch, like every other clock, fights till the end. Though that may sounds corny, a (good) clock's capacity to go on is unbelievable. The best example of this is when a watch starts to run out of battery. The watch doesn't just stop when it sees that its going to die out, it continues to do its best under the circumstances. Only after a long, laborious fight will the watch finally stop moving.
The greatest lessons can be found in the least though-of things.
