The show "I Survived a Japanese Game Show" is absolutely one of the most hilarious thing I ever saw. It sends a few randomly picked Americans to Japan to participate in one of their wacky game shows. And when I say wacky, I mean wacky.
I still remember back in the days in Singapore when we watched the game shows there. There was one which particularly struck me as awesome; the show's name went along the lines of "Thousand changes." Contestants go on the program to demonstarted homebrewed magic tricks or shows involving weird talents. One of which is particularly funny: The person cut out a TV shape out of piece of wood, with the screen just small enough so that the belly can be seen through it. He then colored his stomach white and black, stuck the belly near the tv, and started creating ripples on the stomach by using some weird muscle combination. The effect is that it looked like the TV was displaying white noise...
Some how I get the feeling that the Japanese people are not cheering for the people competing but at the competitors. Its almost like that the people are watching animals perform various tricks. Maybe its the exoticness of Americans, white skinned and blonde hair or dark skinned and black hair compared with their yellow. If it was me, I would not want to go on that show... just too demoralizing to think that the people are laughing at me...
